	ART "Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God's kindness: kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile." - Mother Teresa Greetings! This year we will be exploring art in two sections. The first section will be a review of basic skills. By preparing a book of our work, we will demonstrate our grade-level performance of skills including drawing, painting, cutting, and gluing. Neatness counts! Students in grades K-8 should all be on a continuing path of improvement in completing their projects neatly and on time. We are learning about the 7 elements of design: Line Shape Size Color Value Texture Direction In the second section we will look closely at Asian art. This will be very exciting because art history in Asia begins with one of my favorite subjects: ceramics! We will complete many clay projects using designs and techniques from ancient cultures. Then we will look at drawings and paintings which will show students how the popular Manga and Anime arts really began long ago. We will learn about traditions which spread to all Asian countries. Finally, in preparation for our June art show we will study three contemporary artists from the Philippines. Looking forward to a great year!
