Message From Our Principal  August 2007 Dear Holy Family Grade School Families, Welcome to the 2007-2008 school year - Holy Family Grade School’s 82nd year! How great it is for all of us to be here together as part of this community of faith. Each year we focus on one virtue or good quality so that we are all working together to improve. Last year because of the 100th anniversary of Holy Family Parish our theme became Jubilee to celebrate along with the parish. (The Jubilee year will end on the Feast of the Holy Family, December 30th). In our Jubilee logo were these words: Responsibility, Respect, Reconciliation, Service, Peace, Unity, Discipleship, Justice, Gratitude, Harmony, Charity, and Compassion. We reviewed the meaning of those words and worked on putting them into practice. This year’s theme is “Compassionate Hearts.” The word, compassion, is used many times in the Bible. Someone who is compassionate sees, feels, and then does something about the need. This is different from someone who has sympathy. Someone who sympathizes sees and feels, but does nothing. On the front cover of this handbook we have a heart with our Holy Family logo inside. Let us keep this image of all at HFGS with hearts of compassion as we interact with people in daily life. The prayer on the inside of the front cover is to our Compassionate God. It is from the Divine Mercies prayer book. I hope you will read it many times over. It is a very moving prayer. In the center of this handbook/calendar are the Schoolwide Learning Expectations. This year we have included the SLEs in language better understood by the primary grade students.
