physical education

My Image

Dear Parents and Students,

I want to start off by saying a huge “thank you!” for the great welcome I have received since I have started working at Holy Family grade school. It is an honor to represent such a friendly, loyal, and hospitable community.

My name is Evan Doyle. I have been a physical education teacher, as well as, the athletic director for Incarnation Parish school for two years. I have also worked, and still work, for the City of Burbank Parks and Recreation Department for the past five years. I have a BA in Sociology and am currently working on my Masters in Public Administration. I have over eight collective years of recreational experience and am looking forward to solidifying myself into Holy Family’s community. I never think of teaching and or coaching as a job, it is more of a passion.

Now, in regards to physical education, it is my goal to expose the students to as many sports as I can fit in the school year with the hope that it may spark an interest with the students. Physical activity is not just good for personal fitness, but is great for social interaction and self esteem. I thrive when I hear the words “I don’t know how to shoot a basketball,” or “I am not a great runner,” because that is exactly why physical education is in the educational curriculum. I will be teaching basic fundamentals to every sport the students participate in. The only things I require of students are their attention, their ability to keep an open mind, and their willingness to experience all ranges of athletic activities.

As the Athletic Director for after school sports, I am committed to creating a positive, safe, and fun athletic experience for the students, the parents, and for the administration of Holy Family grade school. Holy Family provides a large amount of physical extracurricular activities for the students in which I recommend participation in. After school sports are a great form of team building, fitness, sociability, school pride, and more. After school sports also look fantastic when applying to High Schools. It is my goal to create a great program for every sport Holy Family participates in. I take a personal interest in the quality of coaching each teams receives and the amount of fundamental progress each student receives.

The success of Holy Family’s programs lies within the participation of the students and the support from their parents. Throughout the year there will be many opportunities for parents to receive service hours by volunteering their time to the athletic department. I believe school pride is essential to a healthy scholastic and supportive environment. Please email me with any questions regarding anything, I will be happy to respond to them. I am a big advocate of communication!

God Bless and GO BULLDOGS!

Highlights of the Standards

The five overarching model content standards for elementary and middle school students are as follows:

Standard 1: Students demonstrate the motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.

Standard 2: Students demonstrate knowledge of movement concepts, principles, and strategies that apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.

Standard 3: Students assess and maintain a level of physical fitness to improve health and performance.

Standard 4: Students demonstrate knowledge of physical fitness concepts, principles, and strategies to improve health and performance.

Standard 5: Students demonstrate and utilize knowledge of psychological and sociological concepts, principles, and strategies that apply to the learning and performance of physical activity. In elementary school the content standards emphasize the way in which students move through space and time in their environment, the way in which the student and a partner move in space together, the continuity and change in movement, the manipulation of objects in time and through space, and the manipulation of objects with accuracy and speed. In middle school the content standards emphasize working cooperatively to achieve a common goal, meeting challenges, making decisions, and working as a team to solve

problems.
