Safety

Children are informed that crosswalks are the only acceptable places to cross the street. Do not ask your children to disobey the rules of safety. NO JAYWALKING. Parents are reminded that double parking is a violation of the law. Check the signs as there is restricted parking in the morning and afternoon and on street sweeping days. You will receive a ticket if you park during those times. There is a public parking lot next to the armory. Park and walk the short distance to pick up your children. Children need to be alert in watching for those who are supposed to pick them up. Arrive at five minutes to three for the older children. At this time the cone lane is clear. If you park on the other side of the street, please walk to the comer to cross in the crosswalk to come to meet your child.

Buying From Street Vendors

Children are advised not to buy things from the vendors that are sometimes on Elk Avenue or surrounding areas. If you are with them and choose to do so, that is your decision. Items purchased from street vendors (ice cream, etc.) are not permited to be brought back into the school yard. Once students leave the school yard, it means they are leaving and not returning. Children are not permited to sell things to other children.

Homework

A quiet time and place should be provided for assignments. Those children able to complete the assignment quickly should use the remainder of the homework time for reading. If you find that your child is unable to complete assignments in a reasonable length of time, please make an appointment to discuss the situation with the teacher. Assignments are to be recorded in the assignment notebook provided by the school. The children need to have everything they need when they leave the classroom. They need to be responsible for taking home the assignments and returning them to school on time.

Field Trips

Only assigned chaperones may be part of a field trip. Chaperones may not bring other children. All chaperones must have Virtus Training and Fingerprinting on record in the school office.

Cell Phones/Electronic Devices

Students are not to use the telephone unless there is a real emergency and with the teacher’s permission. When a child is ill, the secretary calls the parents. It is the student’s responsibility to have everything he/she needs when coming to school i.e. homework, projects, lunch (if not ordered) etc.

Students should not have to call parents to bring forgotten items. Please do not call the office with messages for the children unless it is an emergency. At times, students do call from the school office when sent by the teachers to inform the parents of repeatedly missed assignments or signed papers. For students on campus after school hours who find it imperative to use the phone, school personnel are available until 6:00 p.m. to give permission to use the school phone.

Pagers, cell phones, i pods, radios, walkmans, portable games and other intrusive electronic devices are not permitted to be operational on campus including school sponsored activities or events. If any ot these items are found to be in use they will be confiscated for 30 days. This includes before, during and after School.

School Name

Our school name may not be used without permission on publications etc.

Care of Property

Our school facilities and equipment are here as a result of the

sacrifices of many parents and parishioners. Children are expected to exercise proper care in the use of school property. Parents can assist by being aware of the conduct and attitude of their children and supervise them during family/school functions such as the fiesta.

Books are furnished on a rental basis. It is the responsibility of parents to pay for lost and damaged books. It is also the responsibility of the parents to pay for any willful damage to the school plant or the school’s equipment.

Insurance

Archdiocesan regulations require that all students have the school insurance. The school makes payment for this in September. Information regarding coverage and claims is sent home at the beginning of the school year.
